I have just realized that first(?) version has the same engine as in Sub2. And it has the same bugs, lol.

I never played that first version, I think. But it's normal that two contiguous games share the same engine at first.

I believe Mateusz said somewhere that when he released sub2 he was already working on sub3.

I may be very slow here, but did Murtaugh send us to the loop? Because that's what the wiki seems to be implying.

A portal did.
It can send man to random location.
Or Mur lied in a note, and it really sends people to the loop, what causes smarter ones to escape from the loop, and thus going to the lab, when the smartest are send to the root, and then to edge.
Yeah, I know, one sentence, two miles long.
