Re: off topic

For a lot of games I find them much more fun when I'm playing them with other people. I guess it's because I don't truly *like* videogames all that much and it's just the idea of playing with friends that entices me.

Re: Meditations

"Survival of the fittest" was made up by some person with a marketing degree, not a scientist. No evolutionary theory has ever claimed that the most physically and/or mentally strong traits will get passed on, and they often don't. Also, natural selection, which is what I think you mean, i...

Re: Technology and informatics thread.

That sort of thing usually happens if you click on ads. Do you ever watch movies online? A lot of those websites have adware on them, so you may want to download a pop-up blocker (or use Google Chrome, it has one by default)

What comes to mind now is for instance the position of languages in the modern world. Will English become the only language over time, or what will happen? Is this good or bad? Obviously there are economic benefits here, but otherwise I view linguicide in negative light. English being a worldwide l...

Re: Meditations

If something's important enough to warrant its own thread (for example, the federal government shutting down the large majority of its services) then make a new thread. If it's not that important; i.e. it doesn't affect a large number of people or doesn't affect you in a life-changing way, then keep...

Re: Meditations

Seeking with curiosity why others believe different is what a debate is. People explain their beliefs in debates. At least they do in proper ones. That's the point. You're conflating the ideas of 'debate' and 'argument/bickering' which is wrong and unfair. We shouldn't be so scared of provoking peop...

Re: Meditations

Okay so, a lot of people here have been complaining about the state of the forum and I don't think that's unwarranted at all. I myself left for a while because I wasn't having fun here, but I came back because I think I might be able to help a little bit and it also makes me nostalgic sometimes. Mos...

Re: off topic

The biggest issue is that you guys don't really talk *about anything* outside of the games. I don't think we've ever really had debates or commentary on current events on here, and I guess the biggest reason for that is most of you guys are pretty young, so you don't have much of an interest in poli...

Re: What are you doing right now?

TVTropes used to be really creepy with the "This Troper" section. The mods actually deleted it because of how bad it got.
